DECEMBER 2019: A FUN-DA-MENTALS CLASS
PORTUGUESE CHOCO-LICIOUS ROSEMARY CUSTARD MINI TORTES + COZY ROSEMARY HOT CHOCOLATE
As the weather gets colder and we get closer to the holidays, you may have noticed that your kids become antsier. This is a perfect time to get them into the kitchen!
Custard is a dessert baked with egg yolks that’s popular all over the world. In Portugal, small custard tarts are a traditional dessert. We thought adding festive chocolate and rosemary would be a sweet treat for kids and adults alike to get ready for winter break. In our after school classes, we passed around the rosemary and had kids smell it and touch it with their eyes closed, engaging other senses as they try to guess what it is. It was also fun to pop a chocolate chip in their hands and have them taste test it with their eyes closed. It’s a brave thing to taste test with eyes closed, especially for kids, and they’re always delighted to taste chocolate on their tongues! Would you be as brave? We hope you enjoy these recipes as much as we enjoyed creating them.
