Celebrating Pride: Honoring LGBTQ+ Chefs and Embracing Diversity!

June 5, 2024 by Emily Moore
  • How do rainbows greet each other? With a "hue-do-you-do?"
  • Why did the rainbow get good grades in school? Because it was so bright it always knew the answers!

June is a special month at Sticky Fingers Cooking as we join the world in celebrating Pride Month, commemorating the Stonewall Riots of 1969. It’s a time to honor the equality, inclusion, dignity, and visibility of LGBTQ+ people, embracing one simple yet powerful truth: love is love. We’re kicking off Pride Month today by spotlighting some incredible chefs who proudly identify as members of the LGBTQ+ community.

Spotlight on Inspirational LGBTQ Chefs

Jerusalem-born Yotam Ottolenghi is a renowned chef, restaurateur, and food writer. whose best-selling cookbooks include Plenty, Jerusalem, and Plenty More, among others. His innovative cooking coupled with his openness about his sexuality and the challenges he has faced have made Ottolenghi a prominent figure in the culinary world and his candid discussions have been vital in fostering a more inclusive and accepting environment within the food industry.

Ted Allen is an American food and wine expert, cookbook author, and television personality known for his role as the host of the popular cooking competition show “Chopped” on the Food Network. He gained widespread recognition as the food and wine connoisseur on the original “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy.” Allen is the recipient of a James Beard Award and remains a prominent figure in both the culinary and LGBTQ+ communities.

Elizabeth Falkner is a celebrated American pastry chef, cookbook author, and television personality who has appeared on numerous cooking competition shows, including “Top Chef,” “Top Chef Masters,” and “Iron Chef America.” She is an openly gay advocate for the LGBTQ+ community and continues to influence the culinary world with her singularly innovative style and commitment to diversity and inclusion.
