Cooks + Books Summer Camps: Celebrate Children's Literacy Week With Us!

Hooray for Children’s Book Week, the 7-day stretch in May dedicated to the captivating world of children’s literature! At Sticky Fingers Cooking, we believe that reading has a magical ability to spark kids’ creativity and imagination. That’s why we created our Cooks + Books Summer Camp, an engaging experience that combines kids’ natural love of stories with their eagerness to get busy in the kitchen!

During our book-themed cooking classes, kids are transported into imaginary worlds through beloved books like Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak, Dragons Love Tacos by Adam Rubin, and Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by J.K. Rowling. Our talented instructors set the scene and lead kids through hands-on culinary activities that bring the stories to life. This interactive and educational experience is designed to nourish kids’ minds and bellies while teaching them essential cooking skills and techniques.

For children who love to read but may be hesitant to try new foods, our Cooks + Books Summer Camp provides a safe and fun environment to explore new flavors and ingredients. It also offers an inventive route to captivate kids who are less enthusiastic about reading! Visit the Sticky Fingers Cooking website to find a Cooks + Books camp near you! And remember, if summer camp’s not in the cards for your kiddo this summer, you can still cook up your own adventures at home. Just search our free online recipe collection by keyword, ingredient, or geographic region to find fun, easy recipes to pair with your child’s favorite book! And if this camp doesn’t sizzle your bacon, explore other exciting themed cooking camps for kids here!

Side note: Children’s Literacy Week happens to coincide with Read to a Pet Week! A mounting body of research shows that reading to pets can improve kids’ reading abilities and increase their sense of confidence and well-being, both of which are essential for a child’s growth and development. Don’t fret if you don’t have a pet! Canine and feline reading programs like Paws to Read provide a safe and encouraging place for kids to practice their emerging reading skills while enjoying companionship with a furry friend. Win-win!
