Celebrate Valentine's Day in the Kitchen with Kids!

February 8, 2023 by Emily Moore

Knock Knock. Who's there? Olive. Olive who? Olive you!

Whether you're a parent, grandparent, or caregiver, there are plenty of ways to cook up love with kids for Valentine's Day. Here are a few ideas to get you started...

Cook Together (you knew I was going to say that, right?)

Cooking is a great way to bond with kids while teaching them practical life skills. Why not plan a special Valentine's Day meal together and let the kids help prepare it? You could even build it around a theme, say… elegance. Grab a tablecloth and your fanciest plates, light a candle, and make something sophisticated and delicious (how about Fussy Fancy Puff Pastry Bundles + Broccoli Caesar Salad Boats + Sparkling Grape Spritz?)

Bake Together

Again, this is no surprise coming from a kids’ cooking school, but kids love to bake! Combine baking with someone they love (YOU!), and you’ve got a recipe for a STELLAR Valentine’s Day. Our kid chefs recommend Luscious Lemon Tart Cups, Cosmic Cinnamon Swirl Cupcakes, or Mini Mahogany Cakes <------------ check out us making this recipe on TikTok here.)

Make a Meal of Favorites

What if everyone in the family got the chance to pick a favorite food to contribute to a Valentine’s Day family meal? Sure, you might end up with something a little wild, but that’s part of the fun, isn’t it? If you have a big family, you could even stretch it out over a week, picking a day for each family member.

Make Snazzy Snacks

For Valentine’s WEEK, you could go all out on heart-shaped treats. You might be surprised just how many foods can be made to resemble a heart (we use a Heart-Shaped waffle maker here!), especially – but not necessarily – when a heart-shaped cookie cutter is involved!

Cook Up Some Gifts for Others

Valentine's Day is the perfect day to show love and appreciation to ALL the people you care about. Who will you shower love on this season and how will you do it? Involve your kids and have them weigh in. Cards all around? Portuguese Potato “Caldo Verde” Soup for a neighbor? Oatmeal Lace Cookies for the school nurse?

XOXOXO! Emily
