Pancakes and sleepovers go together like movies and popcorn. But making the same recipe over and over again can get a little tiresome, no? Why not try one of these variations the next time your kiddos are pining for pancakes?
Slab Pancakes are for those mornings when you’re just not up for standing at the stove flipping a bunch of pancakes. Instead, spray a sheet pan with cooking oil, pour the batter onto the pan, have kids add their favorite toppings, and pop the whole thing into the oven.
Crepes are like pancakes but thinner (because there’s no baking powder to fluff them up!). Also, you can fill them with practically anything you have on hand, sweet or savory. Apples + cinnamon, berries + cream, ham + cheese tend to be crowd-pleasers, but kids can have fun concocting their own flavor combinations! Need a great recipe?
Dutch Babies – also known as German Pancakes – are my family’s favorite. Like slab pancakes, they’re cooked in the oven instead of on the stovetop. The resulting “pancake” tastes more like a crepe (and even more like a popover if you’re familiar with those). Once baked, you can add whatever sweet and fruity topping appeals to your crew – fresh berries, powdered sugar, or a light drizzle of maple syrup are usually well received!
Wishing you fun mornings with DELICIOUS new traditions!
