StayKITCHEN Ideas For Families

March 9, 2023 by Emily Moore

Enjoy your staycation in the kitchen!

  • What's a baker's favorite kind of garden in the spring? A flour garden!

And just like that, Spring Break is upon us! If traveling isn’t in the cards for you this year, we have some ideas to cook up some fun at home.

Mealtime Mix-Up

There's something about switching up mealtimes that kids find hilarious. You could start the day with Breakfast Pizza (your favorite pizza crust topped with bacon and eggs) or Pancake Tacos (thin, taco-sized pancakes folded in half and stuffed with eggs and cheese). Or bring breakfast to the dinner table with a bowl of oatmeal and all the toppings! Kids can come up with the SILLIEST ideas! Why not plan a topsy-turvy mealtime adventure with them and see where it takes you?

Flicks + Food

For a fun and creative way to encourage your kids to explore new cultures and cuisines, a themed dinner and movie night might be the ticket! Here are some ideas to get you started:

COOLinary® Confidence

Maybe this is the week you help your child master that one kitchen skill they’ve been eager to learn. Dedicate a little time each day to focused skill-building. Whether it's learning how to safely chop veggies, zest citrus, or mastering one recipe, this can be a fun and rewarding way to build your child's kitchen COOLinary® confidence and skills while spending quality time together. (For ideas on age-appropriate kitchen skills, see our age-based guide to cooking with kids).

I hope you eat well, learn something, and have a fun Spring Break!
