What did the root vegetable say to the rock band? Turnip the beets!
Why did the Tikka Masala cross the road? Because it was in a curry! Ahhh, how we love to lead with a knee-slapper. We’re at that point in the season where we’re a little slap-happy and day-dreamy for warmer temps. We’ve had our fill of winter root veggies, hot cocoa, and chili. Still, turnips are an ingredient we’ve yet to explore in depth at Sticky Fingers Cooking, and we thought a creamy Indian Tikka Masala would be the perfect way to warm us up while introducing this spicy, sweet root vegetable to our curious, young chefs!
Even the pickiest of young eaters will be surprised at how this pinkish-hued vegetable transforms from a spicy, knobby radish-like specimen to silky, sweet, and soft in no time. The spices used this week will definitely push the envelope for young palates, but we’re confident that when they smell them sizzling in the skillet with chopped onions and a big knob of butter, their senses will perk up and they’ll be excited to try what they’ve created! If nothing else, we KNOW from experience that noodles are a slam dunk, and a yummy, creamy fruit Lassi will seal the deal.
